Ulta’s Big Summer Beauty Sale Has My Hair Hydrated and My Cheekbones Chiseled
Our take

The allure of a well-timed sale is undeniable, a sentiment clearly echoed in the recent buzz surrounding Ulta’s Big Summer Beauty sale. The article’s enthusiastic embrace of the event speaks to a broader trend: the increasing power of accessible luxury and the savvy marketing strategies employed to cultivate it. Consumers, particularly those with a keen interest in beauty, are increasingly discerning. They seek quality products that align with their personal aesthetic, but also appreciate opportunities to acquire them at a more approachable price point. This isn’t simply about chasing discounts; it's about aligning consumption with values – a desire for self-care and elevated experiences without the commitment of full-price investment. The impulse to indulge in beauty rituals is strong, as evidenced by the editors’ dedication to finding the best luxury beauty brands, and a sale like Ulta's perfectly taps into that existing desire. It’s a clever strategy that leverages the thrill of savings to drive engagement and, ultimately, sales.
The success of Ulta’s sale also underscores the evolving landscape of retail, particularly in the beauty space. Traditional department stores are facing increasing competition from online retailers and direct-to-consumer brands, all vying for the attention of the modern consumer. Ulta, by positioning itself as a curated destination for a wide range of brands, both established and emerging, has carved out a significant niche. Their sales events, like this summer’s, amplify that appeal, offering a compelling reason for consumers to consolidate their beauty purchases within a single platform. Consider, too, the ongoing fascination with personalized style, a trend perfectly illustrated by brands that allow for customization, like the editor-loved brand offering jeans fit customization for under $100. This desire for individual expression extends to beauty, and Ulta's broad selection caters to diverse preferences, allowing customers to curate a personalized routine.
Beyond the immediate transactional aspect of the sale, there’s a deeper cultural resonance at play. The article’s tone – excited, almost giddy – reflects a broader societal embrace of self-care and personal expression. Beauty isn’t solely about vanity; it’s increasingly viewed as a form of self-affirmation, a ritual that fosters confidence and well-being. This shift is particularly notable among younger generations who prioritize authenticity and individuality. Furthermore, the rise of social media and influencer culture has amplified the visibility and desirability of beauty products, creating a constant stream of inspiration and aspiration. Even the seemingly frivolous act of purchasing a new lipstick can feel like a small act of self-love, a moment of indulgence in a world that often feels overwhelming. The appeal of finding those moments at a discount is clear. It’s a strategy that acknowledges the emotional connection consumers have with beauty products, transforming a simple purchase into a rewarding experience.
Looking ahead, it will be fascinating to see how retailers continue to navigate this evolving landscape. Will we see more frequent, targeted sales events? Will personalized recommendations and AI-powered shopping experiences become the norm? The key will be striking a balance between offering value and preserving the perception of luxury. The line between accessible and cheap is delicate, and brands that can successfully walk that line—while simultaneously fostering a sense of community and authenticity—will be best positioned to thrive in the years to come. The ability to authentically connect with consumers, as exemplified by those who have mastered the art of building online followings, as seen in the strategy for making a pet famous online, will be crucial. Ultimately, the question remains: can retailers continue to offer compelling deals without diluting the perceived value and desirability of the products they sell?
There’s nothing that gets me going more than the prospect of saving money. Tack on the fact that those savings are on products that my beauty-loving heart was probably going to buy anyway? Take my money. This is exactly what Ulta Beauty intends to do with its Big Summer Beauty sale, and I have to admit: they got me.
Some of my favorite brands are on major sale right now, with deals of up to 40 percent off retail prices. The promotion will run until July 11 and will take place both in stores and online. So whether you want to settle into bed and curate your shopping cart or just run to your closest Ulta store when you have some time, don’t fret; you won’t be missing out on the chance to get hold of your must-have items.
If you’re not like me and don’t constantly have shopping carts full of products on all of your favorite websites (don’t judge me), then allow me to curate your Ulta sale cart for you. Whether you’re looking for new hair products, makeup, skincare, or—and I can't believe I’m saying this—getting ahead on holiday shopping, keep reading for the best deals during the Big Summer Beauty sale.
Hair
If you have dry hair, as I do, the products below are more than worth picking up on sale. Plus, quite a few of the offerings come in jumbo sizes, so they should last you a while before you have to stock up again.

While I do adore this entire line, if there were one product that I would get, it would be this leave-in treatment. No matter what shampoo and conditioner I use, this product keeps my hair feeling healthy, strong, and super hydrated, even when it's been a while between my wash days.

I started using this line a few months ago, and my dry hair drinks it up. If I had to pick one product from the line, it would be the conditioner. Every time I use it, my hair feels healthy, strong, and most importantly, hydrated.
Makeup
Of course, this is also a fantastic time to stock up on your favorite makeup products and try a few new ones.

I love a glossy, editorial cheek, and if you do too, this highlighter should be in your makeup bag. Not only does it come in different shades, but you can also use it all over the body, so you can tuck it into your beach bag this summer for that out-of-office vacation photoshoot you have planned.

Rabanne has incredible makeup, but this blush duo is one of my favorite offerings from the brand. There are two shades in the palette, a blush and a complementary highlighter, and it’s small enough to keep it stored in your makeup bag for easy touch-ups on the go.
Skincare
There’s no good makeup without a fantastic skincare routine, so shop the products below that I believe literally anyone with any skin type can benefit from.

I have been using this toner for months. Not only am I just now reaching the halfway mark, but it also combines two deeply nourishing ingredients: hyaluronic acid and squalane, both of which my skin loves.

I, and pretty much every other beauty editor I know, love this cleansing balm, and it’s not hard to understand why. Not only does it last for months, but it also takes off all of your makeup without leaving any residue behind or making your skin feel completely devoid of moisture.
Fragrance
If there is a good deal on fragrances anywhere near me, trust and believe I will always scope out the scene. The two below boast fantastic formulas and notes. Tack on a discount, and you’re basically in fragrance heaven.

Clean Classic’s Apple Blossom is a beautiful, fruity-floral scent that anyone can wear. Notes like apple and pear open the perfume before florals like watery jasmine and peony take over. Musk, amberwood, and musk water reinforce its slightly aquatic element, making the entire concoction feel cozy yet uplifting, like a perfect day in nature.

Whether you know and love Black Opium or are just getting familiar with the line, everyone should own YSL's Black Opium Eau de Parfum Glitter. It takes the original DNA of the fragrance and adds a delicious marshmallow musk accord that takes it even further into the gourmand family. Paired with the coffee and vanilla notes, you’ll basically become the human version of a delectable latte.
Tools
Some of the best deals will always be in the beauty tools section. I swear by the two below, and I’ve even put some of my best friends on to these two specific products.

This is one of my favorite hair dryers. It simultaneously stretches and dries your hair, but the magic is that you can customize both the amount of tension and the level of heat independently of each other. Meaning, if you want to rough-dry your hair at a low temperature but still get the stretch of a fresh blow dry, you can achieve your desired results without sacrificing your hair's health. It’s honestly genius.

The NuFace is one of the better-performing tools on the market, and I’ve recommended it to almost everyone I know. Not only does it give an immediate lift on first use, but that lift also becomes permanent when you use it routinely. This is a product that truly works, but like pretty much all beauty tools, consistency is key.
