here’s your reminder to always be sure you’re learning about your chickens from a trustworthy source!

| confirming what most of us have probably already noticed, there’s a lot of inaccurate ai-generated information out there on pretty much every hobby and craft you might ever be interested in. the above photo came from a seemingly innocuous blog posting about where to pet a chicken and where to avoid. when one paragraph told me to pet under the chin, but the next said don’t pet the wattles (which are under the chin) i decided to scroll down and look at the visual aides in the post. and that’s when i realized i was reading robot-written gibberish.** ** this search is pretty low stakes, so incorrect information will be apparent when i try petting the wrong place. but if i were looking up how to treat a parasite or infection, the wrong advice could kill my bird. no matter how you feel about LLMs, there has never been an ai bot that has raised a chicken. please be careful when you’re researching and learn from other humans who have done what you’re trying to do.
