In my situation, does it make more sense to try breaking into football as a content creator rather than a photographer?

Hi everyone, I’d like some honest advice.

I’m from Italy and I’m trying to find the most realistic way to get into football media. My original idea was sports photography, but here the path feels very long and bureaucratic, especially if your goal is to work around professional matches. From what I’ve seen, getting proper access as a photographer can take a lot of time, credentials, and the right connections.

Because of that, I’m starting to think it may be more realistic to try entering through the content creator / videographer side first, especially with smaller clubs.

The problem is that I don’t yet have direct experience working with teams or shooting live matches. My current work is more based on:

  • football edits and cinematic videos I post on TikTok
  • travel/lifestyle photography
  • general creative work

I also put together a small portfolio in case anyone wants to see the kind of style and work I currently have.

So my question is: in a situation like mine, does it make sense to approach clubs as a content creator first, rather than trying to force the traditional sports photographer route?

And more generally, from your experience, is this a realistic entry point into football media, or without direct sports work already in the portfolio is it still too difficult?
